Abstract

This research focuses on the types of Kitsch that have to do with songs and video clips and their effect on the culture of the university young generation in many fields such as their principles, moralities, clothes and lifestyle. The dessertation tackles a set of questions that the researcher has worked hard from the very beginning till the very end to have an answer to and to be familiar with. The reader is to judge how far she could go through them and prove that. The dessertation works on two levels. Theoretically speaking, the researcher tries hard to be original through having a comprehensive view of the song, its history, types and essential "maqamat" from which other "mqamat were driven. Added to that is the relation between the song and Arabic poetry as well as its connection to the accompanying musical tune. This is done through a study of the history of music, its beginnings and the most prominent Arab musicians who had a huge impact on the world music in a way that made them the guidelines of western musical art. On the practical level, the dissertation is a practical factual study in which the researcher has been keen on having a variety of materials in order to prove how kitsch songs were represented in terms of vocabulary, tunes, ways of singing and dressing. Eventually, the dessertation has a set of results which are the basis from which the researcher concludes with a set of preventive suggestions that she considers as a way of developing Arabic music into its upper most level.
